Gear & Equipment
IBB Authorized Archive v1.0Gear in the IBB is viewed as a tool for immersion. While not a requirement for membership, high-quality equipment can assist in achieving deeper headspace and providing clear social signaling to the pack.
Material Science: Choosing Your Gear
The material of your gear affects its longevity, comfort, and the "vibe" of your persona. Choose based on your play style:
| Material | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Neoprene | Lightweight, breathable, easy to wash. | Can absorb sweat; less "durable" than leather. |
| Leather | High durability, classic aesthetic, firm fit. | Requires conditioning; expensive; not water-friendly. |
| Silicone/Latex | Sleek, easy to sanitize, high sensory shift. | Heat retention; can be fragile; requires lubricants. |
1. Advanced Gear Categories
The Sensory Hood
Beyond aesthetics, hoods provide "Sensory Deprivation" or "Sensory Focus." Closed-ear hoods muffle human conversation, while bridge-less hoods change your field of vision, forcing you to rely more on your "canine" senses of hearing and scent.
Ergonomic Paws & Footwear
For pups who spend significant time on all fours, ergonomics are vital. Look for mitts with built-in wrist support or "paws" that provide padding for the palms to prevent repetitive strain injuries (RSI) during long mosh sessions.
2. The "IBB Tag" & Identification
Every member is encouraged to have a physical tag. In the Brigade, tags serve three purposes:
- Identification: Displays your pup name clearly.
- Status: Often indicates your rank or "Member Since" date.
- Medical Info: A secondary tag with emergency contact info or allergies is a standard safety practice.
3. Hygiene & Maintenance Protocols
Proper gear care is a matter of health. Follow this maintenance schedule:
- After Every Use: Wipe down the interior of hoods with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution or specialized gear cleaner to prevent "Gear Funk" and skin irritation.
- Monthly: Check all hardware (buckles, D-rings, rivets) for signs of metal fatigue or rust. A snapping collar during a lead-pull is a major safety hazard.
- Storage: Never store leather and neoprene together in a sealed bag; ensure gear is completely dry before storage to prevent mold.
DIY & Modifications
The IBB encourages personalizing your gear. Adding custom patches to neoprene or engraving your own tags is a great way to express your persona without the "premium" price tag of boutique shops.
